Pieces Interactive, the developer behind the recent Alone in the Dark reboot, has been shut down by Embracer.
The developer’s website now says “Thank you for playing with us” and the dates are 2007-2024. “Our last release was a reimagining of Alone in the Dark,” it concludes (Thank you IGN,
Embracer acquired Pieces in 2017 after working on multiple Titan Quest projects. The Swedish group has laid off several developers over the past year, resulting in layoffs.
Since its founding in 2007, Pieces has released over 10 games on PC, consoles and mobile, including original projects and support for other games from Paradox, Koei Tecmo, Arrowhead, Koch Media, and more.
It’s the latest loss to Studio Embracer, which Sold its Sabre assets in March and Borderlands developer Gearbox sold to Take-Two It was sold that same month for $460 million.

It was all part of a Embracer’s workforce reduced due to restructuring program Last fiscal year, 4,532 employees were laid off, 44 studios were shut down, and 80 projects in development were discontinued.
Embracer’s quarterly financial report in May said the program was “successfully finalized.” It is unclear whether Pieces was part of the program or if the decision to close the studio was a separate one.
Alone in the Dark, released in March, received lukewarm reviews and was described by Embracer management as “below expectation”.
