Apple is preparing to introduce a new AI system on iPhone, iPad and Mac at WWDC 2024 next week – and according to a report it will be called Apple Intelligence. From the report BloombergIn addition to providing new “beta” AI features on Apple’s platform and apps, it will reportedly provide access to a new ChatGPT-like chatbot powered by OpenAI.
Apple will reportedly not focus on the much-talked-about AI features like image or video creation and will instead focus on adding AI-powered summaries, answer suggestions, and AI overhaul. Siri may get more control over apps while pursuing applications with “broad appeal”.
According to the report, Apple will use “OpenAI’s own technology and tools” to power its new AI features. BloombergThe company will reportedly use an algorithm to determine whether it can process a particular task on the device or will need to send the query to a cloud server. Previous reports have pointed out how Apple may focus on using its own M2 chips in data centers, which have a Secure Enclave, so that data processed remotely is said to be as secure as it would be on the device.
To address other potential security concerns, Bloomberg Apple says it will not create profiles based on user data and will create reports to show that their information is not being sold or read.
Bloomberg Users on an iPad or Mac will need a device powered by the M1 chip or later, while mobile requirements could be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro or one of the iPhone 16 devices launching this fall, according to the report. BloombergApple will not force users to use the new AI features and will give them the option to opt-in to these capabilities.
