There is a palpable sense of shock and sadness in the village of Eglinton after the quad bike accident on the Ballygudden Road, just off the main street in the village.
It is understood the accident happened on a bend in the road as the teenager was coming down the hill on the quad bike.
It is also understood he was given initial assistance by staff from the nearby Eglinton Medical Centre.
Damage to the hedgerow on the narrow rural road where the accident happened is clearly visible to passing motorists.
It is an area with many farming families.
