Roku has rendered my TV unusable.

On June 6, my TCL TV’s Roku OS was updated to version 13.0.0. Since then, everything I watch has motion smoothing – a TV and movie connoisseur’s biggest nightmare. There’s no way to turn it off.

In the updated OS, Roku has added a feature called Roku Smart Picture, which, according to release notes“Automatically improves picture quality as users stream.” While Roku doesn’t explicitly mention motion smoothing, or what Roku calls “Verb homonymy“The update has made it so that I and many Other with Roku TV Look Motion smoothing, regardless of picture settings Roku Smart Picture Or not.
