Creator of Fantastic Village Builder Dorfromantik has unveiled its next game, Star Birds.
Unveiled at the PC Gaming Show this evening, Tucana Interactive’s new space puzzler is being created in collaboration with a German YouTube science channel Kurzgesagt: In a nutshellWho are providing the cheerful, cartoon visual style for this asteroid-themed base builder.
Designed to offer a “fresh and accessible” approach to resource management games, Star Birds is all about helping its titular avian explorers establish a thriving mining empire on as many asteroids as they can get their beaks into. The asteroids in question will be procedurally generated, and you’ll have to work around their unique shapes, sizes, and terrain to extract the precious materials hidden beneath their surface.
This involves building all sorts of weird-looking devices, connecting them with cables and pipes, and keeping them running by connecting them to various power sources – I’ve seen a couple of these generators and solar panels, but these machines will undoubtedly evolve over time as you start to gain access to bigger and better technologies.
As your enterprise begins to grow, you’ll also have to take care of your birds’ various needs and desires (rocket-fueled Fatball, anyone?), and judging by the trailer, it looks like there will be big mysteries to solve along the way.
Tokana says that Star Bird’s resources and production processes are all inspired by real science – no doubt inspired by Kurzgesagt’s expert knowledge on the subject – but you won’t need a degree in rocket science to have a good time with it (looking at you, Kerbal Space Program). Rather, it aims to teach us something as we get acquainted with its colourful production tools, and pique our interest in the stars above us.
Star Birds to be launched Steam In 2025.
