One year after the 22-hour long documentary series Started for the first timeDouble Fine has released an update to Psychoodyssey.
The over 90-minute-long episode – subtitled “We Wrote It All Down” – is “a direct sequel to the acclaimed series Double Fine Adventures, and offers an even deeper insight into the passion, humour and heartbreak of video game development.”
The episode also features the studio “considering the launch of Psychonauts 2 and the Psychoodyssey documentary series, looking to the future, and a return to smaller projects”.
The best part is that, just like the original series, you can watch it in its entirety on YouTube for free:
Describing the series as “an unprecedented documentary experience culminating nine years of hard work”, producers 2 Player Productions and Double Fine say: “Ten years after the successful release of its flagship video game Psychonauts, Double Fine Productions returns to its most famous franchise with Psychonauts 2.
“Now faced with the pressure of creating a worthy sequel, the studio must contend with overambitious designs, poor morale, technical challenges and financial woes, all during a turbulent time for the world.”
Last year, the founder of Double Fine Productions Tim Schafer inducted into The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) Hall of FameSchafer – known for games such as Grim Fandango, Psychonauts and Broken Age – was honored at the 26th annual DICE event (not to be confused with EA’s Stockholm studio of the same name).
Schaeffer recently revealed that he “stays away from stereotypes” To make their games more inclusive and avoid “hurting people”.
