“Player agency is vital to the Dragon Age: The Valeguard experience and allows each player to build unique personal relationships with their favorite companions. And, yes, you can romance any companion you want!”

It certainly seems like romance won’t be limited to specific characters, as it was in Inquisition, and will be more akin to Dragon Age 2 or Baldur’s Gate 3.

“Seven companions is the perfect number for the story we’re telling,” Mackie added. “As you travel with your companions to learn their backstory and gain their loyalty and friendship, you’ll visit more regions of Thedas with a greater diversity of biomes than any Dragon Age before it.”

As for combat, BioWare veterans may be pleased to hear about an ability wheel that lets you freeze time and plan future moves.

“As an RPG, strategy is key in combat as you bring two companions into every battle. Each companion brings unique powers and abilities that directly impact how you choose to take down your enemies. To add another layer to that strategic element, we’re introducing a new ability wheel where you can pause the action and decide your next move – whether that’s your companions’ abilities or your own.”

“The ability cycle opens up a huge repository of strategic possibilities, giving players the ability to control the flow of battle and link powerful combinations of abilities between players and their teammates.”

BioWare has said that we’ll get our first look at 15 minutes of gameplay from Dragon Age: The Veilguard next week, on Tuesday 11th June, at 4pm UK time, as it’s always a busy game. Not-E3 / Summer Game Fest week To be continued.
