Firewalk developer confirms Concorde was in development for about eight years


A member of Firewalk’s development team has revealed that Concord – PlayStation’s new 5v5 science-fiction shooter – had been in development for “almost” eight years.

This little tidbit was confirmed by Concord’s lead character designer John Wiesniewski in a post on social media platform X celebrating the game’s launch, with the developer revealing that he had been personally working on it for the past five years.

“We don’t get to see too many launch days in our careers, so today is special for a lot of reasons,” Wiesniewski wrote. “Give me some good vibes today.” The developer added that the entire team is “fully energized and ready to keep pushing this for years to come”.

Prior to its release, Firewalk lays out a roadmap for Concordeshared plans to keep the game fresh for at least three seasons. In July, the studio also revealed The game will not have a battle passWhich said: “You own Concorde, Concorde does not own you.”

Chris Tapsell wrote, “Concorde looks to be a blend of several great games – but is that enough?” Eurogamer’s Concorde preview“I suspect the true charm of Concord will emerge once it’s in the hands of viewers, as they struggle with optimal combinations and strategies and the meta begins to solidify.”

Upon its cancellation, the studio – which The game has reportedly been in the works for four years – said that when faced with the choice of becoming a “live service-only game studio” or “focusing on single-player narrative games”, they chose the latter.
