How long have you been a Eurogamer reader? I’ll say it another way: how many different Eurogamer editors do you remember? The site has been around for a long time now – it’s 25 years old this week – so a lot of different people have worked on it. I’m asking because, well, I’ve gathered those editors together again for a very special anniversary podcast, which you can watch and listen to right now.
Joining me on the podcast is Eurogamer’s original editor John Bye, known to some as Gestalt, who edited the site from its founding in 1999 until 2002. Then we have Kristen Reed, who took over in 2002 and ran the site until 2008, then passed the baton to Tom Bramwell, who led it until 2014. Oli Welsh then ran Eurogamer from 2014 until 2021, before Wesley Yin-Poole took over. Unfortunately Martin Robinson and Tom Phillips – our recent editors – were unable to join as they were unable to work on the site. Gamescom When we recorded it.
Also on the podcast is Ellie Gibson, who was a hugely influential voice and personality on the site, and was even its editor for a while in 2011.

It’s been years since I’ve seen and spoken to some of these people – I’ve worked with almost all of them – and in most cases, it’s been years since they’ve spoken to each other. Despite this, very quickly we all fall into a familiar rhythm, telling stories, sharing memories and having a lot of laughs. I miss these people very much.
If you’ve ever been curious about the roots of Eurogamer and how the site came to be, or if you’ve wondered what former editors are doing now – or maybe you just want to reminisce – then I’ve got the conversation for you. A big thank you to all of my guests for joining the podcast and helping to make Eurogamer what it is today. Congratulations!
