FromSoftware warns about new Elden Ring Steam Deck bug causing the game to become unresponsive

FromSoftware gives a hand (a Goat-horse in a more suitable placefor example) and with the other it takes away; Elden Ring‘s newly released 1.12 update has revealed a bug that could cause things to crash on the Steam Deck – but FromSoftware says it’s investigating it.

As detailed in Developer’s social media feedLeaving Elden Ring idle for too long on Steam Deck can render the game unplayable in some cases – something you’ll want to keep in mind if you need to go out and punch something, or have a little cry.

“An issue related to the Steam Deck has been identified and a hotfix is being worked on,” the studio wrote on X. “Leaving your Steam Deck idle for more than five minutes may cause the game to stop accepting input. We apologize for the inconvenience.” For what it’s worth, I left Elden Ring running for several five-minute windows in the interest of science and had no problems restarting each time – so it’s possible this isn’t a particularly widespread problem.

I don’t know if this trailer is any good or not, as I’m avoiding spoilers.Watch on YouTube

As for when the fix will be rolled out, that’s unclear at the moment, with FromSoftware only saying that, “The date and time of the hotfix will be announced separately.” The responses to the developer’s post also include multiple reports of Steam Deck users being blocked from playing online after receiving an “Inappropriate Activity Detected” message. FromSoftware has yet to acknowledge these reports, but concerned players will hopefully get more news soon.

In other Elden Ring news, its much-anticipated Shadows of the Aardtree expansion is currently about 23 minutes away from release. Now I’ll close my laptop and sit on the couch and watch Steam until it arrives. Bye!
