GAME is shutting down the rewards scheme next month – and you should use up the remaining credits while you can

UK high street retailer GAME has announced it will shut down its long-running rewards programme on 31 July 2024. This applies to the standard GAME Rewards scheme and the Elite membership tier too.

No additional reward points will be earned for purchases made at GAME stores or on the GAME website two weeks prior to July 15.

You will also not be able to redeem reward points from July 31.

“We strongly urge you to redeem your Game Rewards Points in-store or on online purchases before the closure date to avoid disappointment,” Game wrote today.

“After the expiry date, GAME Rewards points will reset to zero and the GAME Rewards account will be closed, you will no longer be able to access it and you will no longer be able to redeem your GAME Rewards points.”

As per GAME’s terms and conditions, you can redeem 400 reward points for £1 off on a purchase. You need to redeem at least 400 points to use the remaining amount.

Meanwhile, the end of GAME Elite means that its monthly offers, prize draws and other promotions will also end. All months paid in balance for Elite membership will be eligible for a refund.

The FAQ on the changes raises the question of what existing Game Rewards card holders should do with their soon-to-be-useless membership cards. The FAQ states, “They can be destroyed as they will no longer be of use.”

Eurogamer was told of the potential end of the Game Rewards programme earlier this year, part of ongoing changes at the chain which have seen it primarily positioned as a concession in Sports Direct and other Frasers Group outlets, rather than in its own exclusive high street stores.

earlier this year, Eurogamer reveals how games staff have been put on zero-hours contracts while others have been made redundant,

Eurogamer understands that the changes to the games rewards schemes are part of further steps to standardise the business to operate within concession units, Following the end of GAME’s long-standing trade-in schemeGoing forward, GAME will be able to sell stock via the Frasers Group tills software, without the need for a dedicated GAME till that contains the chain’s trade-in product database, or the need to accommodate GAME Rewards points.
