Get this 5TB WD My Passport Ultra Recertified HDD for a song from Western Digital

I’ve been using Western Digital hard drives for a long time, ever since I bought one as an expansion drive for my Xbox One ten years ago, and since then I’ve accumulated a stack of cut-price drives to store media and important files. In my experience, they’ve been completely reliable, and work flawlessly. With this deal on the recertified My Passport Ultra drive for Mac, you too can add a big HDD to store all sorts of things. It’s a 5TB option, currently available for £80 off direct from WD, giving you a handy saving from its £165 list price.

Before I go further, I should say that this is a recertified drive according to WD’s own standards. According to them, this means that it is a drive that the customer can return and that can be repaired. They are all tested to meet Western Digital’s quality standards, but they may have some minor marks. From my personal experience, the HDDs I have bought as recertified from Western Digital in the past have all been almost new, so I recommend them as a good place to buy from.

The fact that you’re getting five terabytes of storage here is plenty for cold storing a lot of media and even an entire Steam library, though you’ll be better off moving games to the internal SSD for faster performance. You can also use this drive for cold storing current-generation console games, though this drive isn’t fast enough for playing games on the go. Still, at a time when games are constantly getting bigger, having such a large amount of usable storage is fantastic for fitting even more.

The interesting thing about this drive is its USB-C connector, given that it has traditionally been designed for use with Macs, as Apple no longer puts USB-A ports on MacBooks, for example. If you’re using it with a device that doesn’t have a USB-C port, there’s also a USB-C to USB-A adapter in the box, although going for USB-C doesn’t offer any performance benefits, just for wider compatibility. I don’t think this is a bad thing.

If you’re looking to get a lot of hard drive storage space at a low price, this deal on the re-certified WD My Passport Ultra 5TB HDD is a great bargain.
