Last night, Microsoft unveiled Three new Xbox consoles is set to hit the market. However, there has been no word on any handheld Xbox gaming device, despite previous rumors that such a platform was in development.
After the show, Phil Spencer said in an interview, IGNwhere he was specifically asked about an Xbox handheld device, and the company’s mantra of ‘going where the players are’. And, despite neither officially confirming (nor denying) an Xbox handheld device, Spencer agreed: “I think we should have a handheld”.
Spencer said: “The future is great for us in hardware, and I’m really excited about the work the team is doing around different form factors, different ways to play. Today was all about games… but we’ll have time to talk more about the platform, and we can’t wait to bring it to you.”
When asked further, hypothetically, whether any future handheld Xbox console would be similar to the Steam Deck in that it could be played offline, or whether it would be a cloud-based kit, Spencer said: “I think being able to play games locally is really important.”
