The Sihu Doro S300 is one of the most interesting, futuristic looking chairs I’ve seen in a long time. It’s been marketed by the Chinese brand as a ‘zero gravity’ chair, presumably designed to make you feel like you’re floating in mid-air while in reality you’re writing an important email.
Perhaps it is important to address that claim first. Of course, no chair will actually let you float in mid-air – then it wouldn’t be a chair. But, the Doro S300 comes very close to making you feel that way. Thanks to the literal suspension found in the Doro S300, as well as its myriad adjustability and clever dual lumbar support, this chair has more support than I’ve ever experienced. The relaxation and almost zen feeling you get from using it is, truth be told, like leaning your back on a cloud.
This is not even an exaggeration. I’ve been through my fair share of racing-seat style gaming chairs, and while more premium options like the Secretlab Titan Evo have been comfortable, they don’t come close to the Doro S300. Everything on this chair is adjustable, from the actual seat to the armrests and back panel. This is good in some respects, as you can configure the Doro S300 as you wish, although not so good in others. Adjusting myself even slightly after returning to my desk caused the seat to move, while the armrests did not lock into place. They are adept at changing their angle or direction, but will not remain in that position for very long.
As for its adjustability, the Doro S300 offers up to 138 degrees of tilt at three settings. For my use, I kept it on the middle setting to provide the flexibility to recline without feeling like I was about to fall off the chair. Coupled with this, are those dreaded 6D armrests that can move vertically, side to side, and even diagonally up and down if you want. The backrest is divided into two pieces, with a wider top piece to support your head and shoulders, while the lower piece is spring-loaded and adjusts the strength of the lumbar support. The seat of the chair also hangs on springs, so you get a good amount of cushioning when you initially sit down.
This is a high-back chair, which supports everything from your back to your arms particularly well, and I don’t regret the lack of a head-rest, as some people might. In other chairs I’ve had I’ve rarely used them, perhaps given that my posture isn’t the best, but the Doro S300 felt particularly comfortable even without it. Having a mesh chair also means it’s breathable and in the summer months when it’s especially hot in our office, using it for hours on end didn’t cause me much discomfort or stickiness. In all other settings, it has been a pleasure to use.
Plus, it’s extremely well built with a mix of thick metal base, velvety mesh seat, and fiberglass upholstery, making it one of the best chairs I’ve seen in terms of build quality, while I have white color here. ,It looks very stylish. It is also quite heavy, making it a bit difficult to make. Assembling the Doro S300 is undoubtedly a two-person job, just considering how heavy it is, as you need one person to hold a piece in place while the other screws it in. Overall, it probably took about half an hour to 45 minutes to make. , which is reasonably fine.
Then there is the price. There’s no easy way to say it – the Sihu Doro S300 is a £680,$800 chair, making it one of the more expensive office chairs you can buy, full stop. For reference, the SecretLab Titan Evo 2022 starts at $549, while Ikea Marcus is $290, and they’re our two favorite gaming chairs For a while. With its spec sheet and overall user experience here, it’s fair to compare the Doro S300 to the Herman Miller Cosom ($1730) and the Steelcase Gesture ($1663), and in the context of those chairs, it’s a bit more of a ‘value to buy’.
In short, the Sihu Doro S300 is a fantastic office chair that is definitely one of the most comfortable chairs I’ve used in years. This goes for everything from its breathable mesh material to its plethora of adjustability and its smooth recoil. Furthermore, it is exceptionally well made and looks fantastic. This is an expensive chair, but definitely worth the investment.
