We already knew this was coming, thanks to Post-credits teaser The Devil in Me is due out late in 2022, but developer Supermassive has now confirmed that its science-fiction horror outing Directive 8020 will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC next year.
Directive 8020 takes one fist of the Alien and the other of The Thing, crushing them both together, and places players aboard the colony ship Cassiopeia, where its crew must evade an alien creature capable of mimicking its prey.
“Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time,” Supermassive teases. “12 light years from home, Tau Ceti f offers a small ray of hope. When the colony ship crashes on the planet Cassiopeia, its crew soon realizes they’re not alone… As they struggle to survive, they’re faced with the toughest choice of all: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth.”
“When the enemy is lurking openly, years of training and trust between crew members are lost,” it adds. “Who is human and who is not? Your choices are more important now than ever!”
A press release accompanying the Directive 8020 trailer released today suggests something more ambitious than previous titles in Supermassive’s Dark Pictures anthology series, talking up persistent real-time threats, improvised weapons, stealth mechanics, and “intense survival gameplay” alongside the usual branching narrative storyline.
DIRECTV 8020, which stars Lashana Lynch as “ground-breaking astronaut” Young, will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam when it launches next year.
