An astonishingly rare Xbox console donated to a UK charity shop is expected to sell for thousands at an upcoming auction.
The lime green coloured original Xbox console – designed to commemorate the release of the film Hulk in 2003 – is a limited edition original, given away as a cinema scratchcard prize.
While 50 versions of the Hulk were built, only 36 have ever been claimed, 16 of which are considered missing, lost, or destroyed.
“This one really caught my attention,” tester Paul Smith told Polygon. BBC“I’m a sports fan myself, but the rare green color with the Hulk and the Pepsi logo really stood out.”
With eight days left in the auction, the console has already received over 20 bids and is expected to reach a price of £9000. It appears to include all the original cables, five original Xbox games – Tony Hawk Underground, Tony Hawk Underground 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, which I think is Bilbo’s The Hobbit, and another game I can’t quite figure out – and the original controller.
The item description states that “This Green Hulk/Pepsi Xbox was a special promotional Xbox made to commemorate the U.K. release of Universal Pictures’ movie Hulk in 2003.” “The console had a jewel on the top with a promotional image of the Incredible Hulk’s eye and the Pepsi logo. These special editions were only available if you held a winning scratch card when purchasing a popcorn and Pepsi meal at a participating U.K. UCI multiplex cinema.”
“We believe only 36 of these consoles were won and only 20 have been found. We believe only 50 were made. But as we mentioned, only 36 were won.
“In the US, there was a green Xbox made for the Mountain Dew brand, they made 5,000 of those and they’re in high demand, so it’s even rarer.”
The auction advises that there are no other consoles like this on eBay and “none have sold in the past”, “so these are rare, the chance of finding another one is very low, so owning this item is rare”.
All proceeds go to the British Heart Foundation charity.
