Uncharted movie sequel in production, Sony Pictures confirms

Sony Pictures Entertainment has confirmed that a sequel to the Uncharted film is in the works.

This news was shared Diversity Last night, Sony mentioned the Uncharted sequel at CineEurope 2024.

The first Uncharted film was released in 2022, starring Tom Holland as treasure hunter Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Sully. Although the film received mixed reviews upon its debut, including words like “boring” and “colorless”, it is still a great movie. It did quite well at the box officeIt also grossed a respectable $21.5 million at the international box office from 15 foreign markets.

Immediately after the cinematic debut, Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman declared Uncharted to be “a new hit film franchise for the company”.So, where can the Uncharted film series go next? Please Beware of spoilers For the Uncharted film and game series below.

The first film serves as an origin story for Nathan Drake, introducing him to both Sully and Sophia Ali’s Chloe Frazer. Elena Fisher – Drake’s main love interest from the video games – was conspicuously absent from the 2022 release, so it seems likely she will be introduced in some form for the sequel.

In addition, the film concluded with two apparent teasers for future installments. The first showed a man who was apparently Nate’s long-lost and presumed dead brother Sam, writing a postcard to his brother in prison. Therefore, the sequel could focus on Nate’s realization that his brother is actually alive, which would have similar story points to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

The second scene shown during Uncharted’s credits showed Mark Wahlberg’s Victor “Goddamn” Sullivan with a new mustache and brandishing a gun (see header image above). However, before his face-equipped arrival, we saw Tom Holland’s Nate exchange his iconic ring for a Nazi map to a man named Gage. Oh, and it turns out Gage was working for a man named Roman.

This exchange could be an Easter egg, or it could be a hint that Gabriel Roman from the first game, Drake’s Fortune, will appear in the sequel, as well as the German U-boat that our hero found in the woods at the beginning.
