The WD Blue SN580 is one of the newer options, but it’s still one of the best choices out there. Best SSD for PC Gaming We’ve tested it because it’s great in terms of performance, as well as having some really great features. It’s currently available in 1TB flavour from AWD-IT for £55, which is a solid price for what’s on offer here, although it’s a little more expensive elsewhere.
It’s the sequel to the excellent SN570, and brings with it some useful upgrades, including a new PCIe 4.0 interface, which brings it firmly into the modern age with speeds of up to 4150MB/s read and up to 3600MB/s write, making accessing data much easier. In addition, the SN580 also features upgraded read speeds of 750K IOPS read and 600K IOPS write, which means game loading times should be noticeably faster.
The SN580 also has a large hybrid cache, similar to that also seen in the snappy SN850X, which is one of the best SSDs we’ve tested. The 2TB capacity also means you have plenty of storage for, well, storing stuff, whether it’s games, apps, media or anything else. However the lack of DRAM cache in favour of HMB means this isn’t the best drive for more demanding workloads such as video editing or content creation workloads. With that in mind, the use of TLC NAND at this price is impressive, as is the presence of a five-year warranty for peace of mind.
If you’re looking to buy a solid mid-range PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD at a good price, this AWD-IT deal on the WD SN580 1TB is not to be missed.
