XDefiant’s creator says players should “stick with it” but admits there are “a lot of bugs” right now

XDefiant producer Mark Rubin has told players that it’s “okay to move on” if the game “isn’t for you”, but disputed claims that the game was released “rushed” to avoid being released at the same time as other big games.

Responding to an x/Twitter post in which a fan suggested the shooter was “rushed because of GTA 6 and Call of Duty Black Ops 6”, Rubin – who has worked on previous Call of Duty games – refuted the claim, saying: “rushed? No”.

“We have an engine that has always been MMO-only,” Rubin said. “And so all the infrastructure for an FPS had to be built from the ground up. Even CoD started on ID technology which was a shooter engine. Apex started on a shooter engine as well.

“But we’re working on developing all new technology in an engine that was designed for another purpose.”

After stating that the engine used by XDefiant “is really great, but needs a lot of work”, Rubin admitted that since the engine was not designed for shooters, “with that work comes a lot of bugs”.

“The engine is really great,” Rubin said, “but it requires a lot of work, and with that work comes a lot of bugs that other engines have already fixed.”

“We’re not a shooter that’s been out for 20 years. If you like what we’re trying to do then stay tuned and you’ll see things get better and new features added. But if the game isn’t for you then that’s okay, you can move on.”
